Viller Muller, Part B Final.

This drawing highlighted the circulation of Villa Muller
focusing upon the dictated path through the public spaces which the visitor is
led upon. The circulation through the building is a continuous journey over
platforms and stairs that access various rooms with differing heights,
constantly contrasting the space and experience of the room. A separate staircase
is located for servants providing a direct route through the house to the first
floor where the private spaces are located.
This drawing focused upon Loos’ architectural process of
Raumplan, the spatial structure of the plan which focuses upon volumes. “My
architecture is not conceived in plans, but in spaces (cubes). I do not design
floor plans, facades, sections. I design spaces.” Villa Muller displays stepped heights of
the individual rooms according to their function and symbolic importance. The
differentiation in height was controlled by the level of privacy the room
should provide. “For me, there are only
contiguous, continual spaces…storeys merge and spaces relate to each other.” Loos
also provides visual connection between the rooms through see-throughs, perferations
and windows, allowing one to perceive the whole room sequence.
