short film.
Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Despite not being an avid gamer and knowing nothing about the actual Portal game, I found this short film still quite thrilling and interesting to watch. Besides being filmed very nicely along with superb acting and an engaging storyline, what enticed me most was the environment in which it was located and the manipulation of the environment occurring. The beginning seemingly located in an old industrial building as the character is trapped in a room surround by four concrete slabs unable to escape. The chase scene where manipulation of the environment occurs with the new technology albeit unrealistic but something to consider into the future. And of course the final scene and ultimate twist which highlights upon the inability to differentiate between facades and reality, how materials can seem so solid and real and yet not be so. I don’t want to expand to much in case I spoil the ending, but this short film is definitely one of my favourites.
