A: This was my year ten Site Specific sculpture, the aim to create a sculpture influenced primarily by its environment which can only exist in a certain place. My place was the school “Lowers”, a large grassy patch of land which was the lowest point of the school. My inspiration to build the Loch Ness Monster was how after every heavy rainfall, this grassy area would be enveloped by the water and transformed into a lake. The animal nature of the sculpture also alludes towards the school’s location as the former Sydney Zoo site.

B: Saint Sophia Cathedral in Harbin was the first great piece of architecture to come to mind as I have only just recently been to see it. Originally built in 1907 of timber, it was renovated in 1923 and restored again in 1996 after being designated as a national heritage site. Today it has become a museum displaying the history of Harbin and the cathedral. The cathedral is an example of Neo-Byzantine architecture and based upon Christ the Savior Cathedral in Borki.

C: I took this picture at The Rocks Night Market and it just stood out from the rest. Despite being only a shot of Christmas decorations upon a lamp and the sky, to me there’s an irresistible sense of mystery and ambiguity. The lack of lighting enhances it, as the decorations are cast in dim black shadows contrasting to the pure blue sky.  A simple mistake of forgetting the flash resulted in such a beautiful shot.
